Outstanding weekend for rhino's Leipert and Benedikt Boeckels at the ADAC Procar

10/05/10) Last weekend, Team rhino's Leipert entered the second ADAC Masters weekend of the year that was held at the Sachsenring. The races were held on the so-called "Northern Loop of the East" near Chemnitz, which is approx. 3.5 km long, where the Team from Wegberg were at the start with driver Benedikt Boeckels at the ADAC Procar and driver Luca Iannaccone at the ATS F3 Cup.

Benedikt Boeckels from Willich wanted to start his come-from-behind-run for championship at the ADAC Procar. He is one of the main contestants for the title and was hence highly motivated to make up for lost grounds after his unlucky start into the season at Oschersleben. He performed impressively in the qualifying for races 3 and 4 of the season where he reached podium position in his Ford Fiesta ST. On Sunday afternoon, the field of 20 racing cars started race 3 of the year on time.
The first start had to be aborted due to a bad accident on the start and home stretch. Luckily, the re-start went without further complications. The 22 year-old from Willich lost two positions at first and found himself on third place, but after only one lap, he managed to swap places with the current leader in the overall ranking, Guido Thierfelder, and finished the race after 20 minutes in an unchallenged second place.

Since it started to rain at the same time as the second race was started, the latter turned into pure gamble. All vehicles of Division 2 started on slicks which turned out to be a mistake soon after. After two laps, the circuit was completely wet and so it became clear that wet tyres would have been the better choice. Therefore, Team rhino's Leipert ordered Boeckels to the pit in order to change to wet tyres. This turned out to be a tactical masterpiece. When Boeckels re-entered the race, he was in eighth position of Division 2 and nearly one full lap behind the leader. What followed then was motorsport at its best. The Leipert driver raced for his life and was at times 20 seconds faster than the leading Carsten Seifert who was still racing on slicks. The rhino's Leipert driver overtook one competitor after the other and then, 4 minutes before the end of the race, he even passed the leading Seifert and finally won the race with one full lap ahead. Team Manager Ingo Leipert explained: "Both races were soothing for our soul after the season debut at Oschersleben. I think we have shown in an impressive manner that we have to be counted upon. Benedikt was fully concentrated, gave a super performance and jumped from zero to fourth position in the overall ranking. This is promising for the races yet to come."

At the ATS Formula 3 Cup, Luca Iannaccone from Rome started for the Team. The 44 year-old finished the race of the Formula 3 Cup in positions 5 and 6.
