Team rhino's Leipert celebrates podium position at the Sachsenring

(10/05/10) Last weekend (07 - 09/05/10), Team rhino's Leipert participated in the second ADAC Masters Weekend of the year at the Sachsenring. The ADAC GT Masters was held on the so-called "Northern Loop of the East" near Chemnitz, which is approx. 3.5 km long, where drivers Norman Knop from Willich and Roland Rehfeld from Berlin were at the start for the Team from Wegberg in the ADAC GT Masters tournament.

On Friday morning, both regular drivers Norman Knop and Roland Rehfeld participated in the two free practice sessions. They left a mark with their fourth position during the first free practice and hence entered the qualifying sessions highly motivated on Saturday. Their goal for the second racing weekend of the year was a podium position - so, the qualifying had to run smoothly.
Roland Rehfeld immediately confirmed his good performance of the free practice and placed the Ascari KZ1R GT3 on position 4 for the first race. Norman Knop rounded off the good result with a 5th place for
race 2.
The third race of the season with a field of 20 racing cars started at 12 pm and lasted for 1 hour.

Roland Rehfeld had a good start from fourth position and overtook Martin Matzke and his Alpina BMW in lap two already in order to put enormous pressure on Jens Klingmann and his Audi R8 afterwards. Lap after lap, the man from Berlin used his chance and improved his position. Approximately 20 minutes into the race, Rehfeld used his opportunity to overtake the Audi driver and reached second place. Meanwhile, Peter Kox and his Lamborghini sped towards the top position and took the second place off the Ascari duo during a pit-stop window.
After the changeover, due to constant lap times, Norman Knop increased his lead over fourth position up to 14 seconds at times and consequently finished the race unchallenged in third place. Team rhino's Leipert was excited about this first ever podium position for driver duo Knop/Rehfeld at the ADAC GT Masters tournament, which was also the first podium position for the Leipert Ascari in 2010.

On Sunday, Norman Knop entered the fourth race of the season from position 5. It was an exciting race. After a very turbulent start phase, the black-orange Ascari found itself in 8th place. A dramatic fight developed in the upper midfield. A quintet consisting of Leipert's Ascari, an Alpina BMW, an Audi, a Porsche and a Lamborghini was fighting for sixth position. The first half of the race showed many changes and vehicle contacts. Shortly before opening the third pit-stop window, there was a collision between three cars during which a Lamborghini pushed Knop's Ascari from behind onto the Audi in front. The result of this collision was a damaged cooler as well as sustained damage to front and rear of the Ascari.

Team Manager Ingo Leipert had this to say: "We can absolutely be content with the weekend up to the second race and are very happy that our drivers' and the team's performance was rewarded with a third place. Not being able to finish the second race is quite annoying, since we could have jumped into top flight with a good result in the overall ranking. We should be well prepared for the upcoming racing weekend in Hockenheim and want to continue our good performance there."
